Can you cut a car key without the original?
Yes. We cut keys from your vehicle's key code, obtained through the VIN and ownership records or by decoding a door lock. The result is a factory-spec key rather than a copy, which is exactly how lost-key situations get solved. Proof of ownership — registration or title plus ID — is required.
What's a laser-cut key, and can you make one?
A laser-cut (sidewinder) key has a milled groove down the center of a thicker blade instead of edge teeth. It's standard on many newer and higher-end vehicles and requires a dedicated milling machine that kiosks and hardware stores don't have. We cut them on professional equipment, on-site.
Is a cut key the same as a programmed key?
No — cutting is the mechanical half. If your vehicle uses a transponder or smart key, which most vehicles from the late 1990s onward do, the cut key must also be programmed to the immobilizer before the engine will start. We do both in one visit and tell you upfront which your vehicle needs.
My key only works if I jiggle it. Should I just copy it?
No — copying a worn key copies the wear. Years of use drift a key away from factory spec, and each copy-of-a-copy drifts further. The better fix is a key cut fresh from your vehicle's code, which restores the original profile. It will work better than the key you've been jiggling.
Do you come to my location to cut keys?
