Should I replace my locks or rekey them?
Replace when the lock is worn, damaged, or lower-grade than you want on the door. Rekey when the hardware is sound and the only problem is who has keys — after a move, lost keys, or a roommate change. Rekeying costs less, so we recommend it whenever it genuinely solves the problem.
What locks do you recommend for exterior doors?
An ANSI Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt with a one-inch throw, paired with a reinforced strike plate anchored into the framing — the strike plate matters as much as the lock for kick-in resistance. Whether to add a keypad or smart function on top depends on your door, your building, and how you live.
Can you make my new locks work with one key for every door?
Yes. Keying alike is our most common request, and we set it up during installation so a single key runs the front door, back door, and any other compatible lock. It generally requires locks that share a keyway, which is easy to arrange when we're supplying the hardware.
Do you install smart locks and keypad locks?
Yes — keypad deadbolts, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth smart locks, and electronic lever sets, installed and programmed on the same visit. We'll also tell you plainly which models we see fail and which keep working, because we're the ones called back when a cheap unit dies in January.
Can you replace locks on old or non-standard doors?
Yes, and around here it's half the work. Pre-war mortise doors, steel apartment doors, and shifted frames in older two- and three-family homes all take more than an out-of-the-box install. We carry mortise hardware and adapters, and we fit and align the lock so it works smoothly, not just technically.
