Frequently asked questions

What should I do if I'm locked out of my storage unit?

First confirm your unit number and that your account is current with the facility — an overdue account often means the facility has added its own lien lock, which changes who may open the unit. Then call us with the facility name and lock type if you know it, and bring your rental agreement and photo ID.

Do I need to prove the storage unit is mine?

Yes. We ask for photo ID and your rental agreement or other proof of the rental before opening any unit, and most facilities require the same. It adds a few minutes to the visit and it's the reason nobody else can hire a locksmith to open your unit either.

Can you open a disc lock without cutting it?

Often, yes. Disc locks can frequently be picked or decoded, which preserves the lock. When a particular lock resists non-destructive methods, we cut it cleanly — disc locks shrug off bolt cutters, but professional tools handle them — and we can install a new lock on the spot so the unit stays secured.

Will my unit be left unsecured after you open it?

No. If the lock has to be cut, we carry replacement disc locks and padlocks on the truck and fit one before we leave, with new keys in your hand. Your unit goes from locked-out to locked-up in a single visit — there's no gap where your belongings sit behind an open latch.

Do you work with storage facility managers?

Yes. We handle lock removal on delinquent units with proper lien documentation, replace damaged hasps and cylinders, and supply and fit new locks for unit turnover. Facility managers across Hudson County use us because the work is documented, clean, and quoted upfront.

More about storage unit lockout service

Storage unit lockouts have their own logic. The facility won't cut the lock for you — most won't touch a tenant's lock at all, for liability reasons — and the lock itself is usually a disc lock designed specifically to resist cutting. That leaves a locksmith. We open storage units across North Bergen, Secaucus, and the rest of Hudson County, usually in one short visit.

Disc locks are the standard at most facilities because bolt cutters barely mark them. That's good news when it's your belongings behind the door, and less good news when the key is gone. We pick or decode disc locks when the lock allows it and cut them cleanly when it doesn't — then fit a new lock on the spot, so your unit is never left open, even for an afternoon.

Padlocks, built-in cylinder locks, and latch locks come up too, especially at older facilities. Whatever is on the door, bring your rental agreement and photo ID. The facility requires it and so do we — a unit full of someone's possessions deserves the same verification as their front door.

One thing worth checking before you call: your account status with the facility. If the unit is in arrears, many facilities place their own lien lock on the door, and that changes who is legally allowed to open it. Sort that out with the office first and the rest goes quickly.

Lost keys mid-move are the classic version of this call. Storage runs are exactly when key rings get shuffled between cars, pockets, and boxes. While we're on-site we can cut spare keys for the replacement lock, so the next trip to the unit doesn't repeat this one.

A note on what's usually behind these doors: furniture between apartments, business inventory, a contractor's tools — things people need on a schedule. That's why we treat storage lockouts as same-day work whenever the facility's access hours allow, and why we tell you honestly on the phone whether the lock you're describing can likely be picked or will need cutting, so the quote you hear is the one you pay.

We also work directly with facility managers across Hudson County — opening delinquent units with proper documentation, replacing damaged hasps and cylinders, and supplying fresh locks for unit turnover. Whether you rent one unit or run three hundred, the price is quoted before any work begins — call (201) 748-2070 with the facility name and we'll take it from there.
