Frequently asked questions
Will unlocking my house door cause any damage?
No — non-destructive entry is our standard method. We pick, bypass, or shim the lock so the door works exactly as before. Drilling only happens as a last resort on high-security cylinders that defeat everything else, and we tell you before we do it and replace the cylinder on the same visit.
Can you open my apartment door, or only houses?
We open both, and apartments are actually the bigger share of our calls. Walk-ups, condos, and multi-family buildings across Hudson County are our daily territory, including self-locking apartment doors, mortise locks in older buildings, and smart locks in renovated units.
What do I need to show to prove I live there?
Any reasonable proof works: a driver's license with the address, a lease, a utility bill or piece of mail, or confirmation from your landlord or property manager. If everything proving your address is locked inside, tell us when you call — we can usually verify once the door is open.
My key broke off in the lock. Can you fix it?
Yes. We extract the broken piece with specialized tools without harming the cylinder, then check whether the lock itself caused the break — worn pins and stiff cylinders snap keys. If the lock is fine, we can cut a new key on-site. If it's failing, we'll show you and quote a fix.
Should I rekey my locks after a lockout?
If you're locked out because keys were lost or stolen, yes — rekeying makes the missing keys useless and costs far less than new locks. If you simply left keys inside, rekeying isn't necessary, but it's a convenient moment to key every door alike or add a spare set.

More about 24/7 house lockout service
Most Hudson County home lockouts aren't lost keys — they're self-locking doors. You step into the hallway of a North Bergen walk-up or a Hoboken brownstone conversion, the door swings shut behind you, and the knob lock you never touch has done its job. We open these doors all day, every day, without damaging the lock or the frame.

Non-destructive entry is the default, not the exception. Depending on the lock, we pick it, bypass the latch, or shim it — techniques that leave the door working exactly as it did before. Drilling is a genuine last resort, reserved for high-security cylinders that resist everything else, and if it comes to that we tell you first and fit a new cylinder on the spot.
The housing stock here shapes the work. Pre-war buildings run on mortise locks that punish sloppy technique. Renovated condos use smart locks whose batteries die at the worst possible moment. Two- and three-family homes stack a knob lock, a deadbolt, and sometimes a storm-door lock on a single entry. We carry parts and tools for all of them, so the job ends on the first visit.
If your key snapped off in the cylinder, don't dig at it. Pushing the fragment deeper is the most common way a quick fix turns into a full lock replacement. We extract broken keys cleanly and can cut a replacement on-site.
Expect us to verify that you live there — ID, a piece of mail, a lease, or your landlord's confirmation all work. Renters make up the majority of our lockout calls and we handle the authorization question daily. If your ID still shows an old address, say so when you call and we'll tell you what to have ready.
Once you're in, we can make sure this doesn't happen again: rekeying so one key runs every door, a spare set cut while the truck is outside, or a keypad deadbolt so there's nothing to forget. Ask while we're there — a second trip costs more than five extra minutes.
Lockouts don't schedule themselves, so neither do we: nights, weekends, and holidays all count as normal hours, with no overtime premium. And if it feels embarrassing to be standing in the hallway in socks — don't. It's the most common call we get in every town we cover, and getting you back inside quickly is the whole job. Call (201) 748-2070 and tell us where you're standing.
